Sunny Side Cliffs – Climbing at Ross Park

3460 S 2nd Ave Pocatello, ID 83204 USA
Sunny Side cliffs during Pocatello Pump

Rock climbing for all skills – in town!

These short, bolted trad climbs just south of Lower Ross Park provide 3 to 5 bolts for leading, and 2 to 4 top bolts to easily create a top-rope anchor. Routes are numbered 1 – 17a, rated between 5.7 and 5.12 and are regularly maintained by ISU’s Outdoor Recreation Program.

True to their name, these cliffs get very warm (ok, downright hot) in the afternoon sun during Summer and early Fall. Local climbers know to move over to Shady Side once the noon-day sun hits that basalt rock face.

The majority of the routes on both the Shady and Sunny Sides are used during the Pocatello Pump and over the years the routes were given numbers that were eventually fixed to the base of climbs on small metal tags or discretely painted on.

There is off-road parking and (usually) a port-a-potty.
